Jenson and Kimi

It was a great weekend for Jenson and Brawn GP. Jenson was back to form, his car looked marvelous after long time. He was able to go quick and pass couple of drivers. That’s how F1 should be. Fast, multiple overtakings and technology. Ruben was calm after unlucky fight. It is always has been the case that Ruben’s car or tyre or a strategy failed his chances to win the race. That is only when he was fighting with Jenson for the win.

What’s going on with Kimi? He is negotiating with Toyota? That’s for more money? If that’s the genuine news then it is more like a backup plan on hold (from Kimi’s side) and he is kind of buying time. I think he is still trying for top teams – McLaren, Ferrari (in case Massa has a problem) and very likely Brawn GP. Ruben is moving to Williams and Jenson’s partner is not known yet. Who other top driver can be at Brawn GP? Brawn also insisted that team needs a driver who can develop car. Ruben was chosen for the same. So, can Kimi fit in? He is not much into team leadership and overtime car development.

Let’s see how it goes, I believe Kimi’s plan is McLaren (after things are clear with Mercedes involvement) or Ferrari or Brawn. If all fails then at least he has Toyota.

Ferrari

It looks like Ferrari wants to be sure about Massa before letting Kimi go to different Team. I believe that’s what is holding driver line up announcement from McLaren/Kimi. So, Schumi really don’t want to drive fulltime in case needed. So, it will be Massa and Alonso or Kimi and Alonso. Looks like that.

Street circuits are boring due to lack of overtaking possibility. They look shiny and glamorous but all excitement is after safety car reshuffle and restart. Today’s race was no different but well driven victory for Lewis. Alonso dedicated third place to Flavio, is that on the face of Renault or FIA? Let’s see how massa/schumi makes Alonso’s life difficult at Ferrari. If Alonso is smart enough then he will give importance to Michael to avoid what happened to Kimi in last three years. Michael helped develop the car and then worked with Massa, car never suited Kimi. I hope Kimi will enjoy homecoming.

Fisichella

Fisichella could have won the Spa race if he had a enough fuel to go few more laps than Kimi in 1st or 2nd stint. But, instead FiF1 decided to pit Fisichella with Kimi for both pit stops. I think that changed the outcome of the race. Fisichella had faster car and he could have pulled few seconds in fresh air. But that didn’t happen.

Kimi and Ferrari

It was a good race for Kimi and for Ferrari due to unusual starting grid situation and KERS. However, after the race, there was no hugging between Kimi and Ferrari team, even on podium Kimi and Stefano were poles apart. It is really an indication that Kimi is not into the team anymore. He is likely to move to WRC or to a different F1 team. Anyway, he made it clear that he has a contract with Ferrari for 2010 and other teams want him. Which other teams are capable of producing winning car? McLaren is the only capable team with great infrastructure and money. So, likely Kimi will be back to McLarens.

What’s up with Kimi?

Good race for Rubens, bad luck for Lewis and good drive from Kimi. Ferrari is not fast enough to bring 1st place on podium. Everyrime, Massa mentions that he could have qualified for pole or won the race. Looks like he is in a role of Ferrari driver in a team in times to come. Ferrari allowed Kimi to take part in rally Finland showing it is comitted to his future in WRC. It looks like Ferrari wants him in WRC since Kimi enjoys it more than F1 and also Alonso can switch ASAP. Both are quiet and Kimi is very open about his WRC interest. I believe Kimi will not be driving for Ferrari in 2010.

McLarens@Valencia

Fast, consistent McLarens are real challenge to Brawn and Red Bull. Mercs are sure to win this weekend. Ferrari was slow as expected and likely will not be on a podium on Sunday if Kimi can not make places with KERS. More thoughts later.

How Jenson Won the Bahrain GP

Speed of Brawn Cars and position gained on the first lap helped Jenson to fight from the front. Rubens couldn’t do that since he was stuck in the midfield. Jenson drove behind Toyotas, waited for them to pit and then put some fast laps to gain the lead and then pitted. He came out in front of Toyotas and Vettel. Ross Brawns strategy to fight from the front won the race.

Unlucky Massa, Disappointing Kimi & Supreme Fernando

What a race, usual saftey car chaos turned a winning race to a disaster for Massa. Something has to be done for this rule.

Spa 2008 Kimi’s bad luck, Massa’s good luck

Thrilling and eventful race at Spa. Kimi proved that he is back and ready to fight for championship. However, bad decision to fight with Hamilton in slippery conditions with F2008 having poor grip on hard tires may cost him a championship. It is not all ended for Kimi yet, one DNF for Massa and Hamilton can put in back into championship battle but for that he has to win all remaining races. Today, he drove like he is ready to win every remaining race and probably he will do the same now on.

FIA punished Hamilton by 25 sec penalty, it is true to that Hamilton cut the corner while fighting for the position. However, nature of the corner is such that cutting it helped Hamilton to get on to the pace side by side to Kimi’s ferrari.

Let’s see how remaining season unfolds and if Massa and Hamilton can fight for the championship without Kimi.
